The 10 Djiboutian women who had stopped eating since April 25, 2016 in the municipality of St. Josse, Brussels decided to suspend tomorrow, Saturday, May 14 their hunger strike. They have achieved tangible results, their hunger strike led to the adoption of an emergency resolution of the European Parliament, on the serious violations of human rights and especially women's rights in Djibouti. These 10 women have courageously led this difficult struggle for 20 days, In 20 days, many parliamentarians, both in Brussels parliament and the Flemish Parliament, and MEPs, a former minister, associations and members of civil society in Belgium , visited the hunger strikers for their support and express their solidarity. Many associations alongside the Djiboutian Women Committee against the Rape ( COFEDVI ) and Impunity in the first place , the association Brussels Living Together and several women who accompanied the Djiboutian women throughout their action relayed the plight of Djiboutian Women and allowed them to voice their demands in the capital of Europe. Thanks to their determination, the 10 hunger strikers have got: - That the situation of human rights violation and intolerable rape and violence against women in Djibouti are revealed to the world and the highest European authorities and for the 1st time it is discussed by the European Parliament . It is written in the resolution that the European Parliament "condemns with firmness rape allegedly committed by Djiboutian soldiers against civilians who have also been reported by various NGOs" - That an international investigation is conducted into the actions of the army, because it "calls on the UN to investigate the human rights situation in Djibouti, in particular the situation of women in this country.
