Afar Triangle Motherland Series: Free Ahmed Ali Harsa, Nafissa Hamad.

Day 959 in detention without a trial : Ahmed Ali Harsa hostage, in the TPLF version of "Things come in Threes."







The first adjournment was decided on 6 September 2016, for one month and 20 days (50 days). The trial was scheduled to takes place on 26 October 2016.
On November 22, 2016, the TPLF regime decided on a second adjournment of 45 days. This last deadline Ethiopian Justice set for Friday 6th January 2017 has past again without a day in court.


Ethiopian Justice missed their own set two previous deadlines. We are, now, contemplating a further third adjournement as they missed the Friday 06 January 2017 one. It is a deliberate act of psychological torture practiced by the dictatorial regimes by lack of independent Justice in these countries.


We had the same process with our compatriot Mohamed Ahmed Jabha, in prison, since May 2010 in Djibouti.
In the case of Jabha (under constant torture and isolation since May 2010), the dictatorial Issa de Guelleh regime refused to implement the decision of the High Court of Appeal of Djibouti to release Jabha. The 18th June 2017, Jabha was appeared in the court to be sentenced.


He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment. A carceral death sentence with Jabha health condition. That death sentence became effective, in less than two months of the verdict, on the 1st August 2017. Jabha died, on the 3rd August 2017, in hospital due to ill-treatments ( tortures and medical assistance privations ) and poisoning. Jabha family was refused his body and an autopsy for 10 days. The Issa Gouled/Guelleh scavenger Régime don't respect death, the victime and his family right. Jabha was buried without an autopsy after pressure on the family on the the 10th August 2017.


We have the same situation with Mohamed Hamadou Hamad, a docker who was tortured and beaten to death by a Police Sergent Ibrahim Ali Ibrahim, in May 2017. He named his murderer in his death bed as Police Sergent Ibrahim Ali Ibrahim.
The regime has classified the death as a natural death. The family refused the authority version of natural death. They called for a murder investigation and asked for an autopsy to be carried out. Sergent Ibrahim Ali Ibrahim was praised and decorated by his hierarchy for his prowess in torture and mistreatment of victims. Goaded by this impunity, torturer Sergent Ali Ibrahim Ali arrested Mohamed Hamadou Hamad's cousin to put pressure on the family to accept the official Government version of accidental death. He took him into Arhiba Police station. His family and Arhiba's gathered around the station to demand his release before he is transferred to a detention and a torture centre. The Police called in for reinforcement. The reinforcement started shooting with live ammunition the crowd without any warnings. The shooting caused more than 16 casualties dispatched immediately towards neighbouring hospitals. The Police raided the Hosital to arrested the wounded victims. We are without any news or information regarding their plight. The worst is to be feared with this Issa Gouled/Guelleh's Régime tortures and murders track record.


The Two regimes TPLF (Tigre) and RPP (ISSA) in collusion to "Break" the Afar and to partition its land between themselves.


The TPLF regime unfairly detains Ahmed Ali Harsa over 959 days, depriving him of all his rights, kept under isolation and even deprived him of any family visit. TPLF Régime decreed an Emergency laws on the 9th October 2016. TPLF Regime who was already one of the oppressive regime in the world, restricted : Internet , Social media, Broadcast media, Protests, Gestures ( like the Oromo symbol protest against TPLF oppression, brought to notoriety by the Oromo athlete Feyisa Lilesa ), Curfew and privation of freedom of movement for ordinary citizens, diplomates...etc...


Even though Ethiopia's parliament lifted the 10 months long state of emergency, on the 4th August 2017, the TPLF Régime maintain the status quo. Ahmed Ali Harsa and scores of Ethiopian are, still, waiting for their day in a Court of law and to be granted freedom.


Below are the real reasons for his detention:


We all know that Ahmed Ali Harsa is languishing in Ethiopian prisons unfairly. His only crime was to have wanted to earn a living in order to meet his needs and that of his family ( a wife and Ten children ). The two mafia in power in Djibouti and Ethiopia are behind his imprisonment for a crapulous reason.


Ethnic clientelism in both countries by Issas in Djibouti and Tigre in Ethiopia does not tolerate any competition from other ethnic groups in the two countries.


For them any economic competition from others must be crushed. The other communities must remain in economic poverty to exercise their domination.


The Djiboutian and Ethiopian authorities are complicite in his arrest. There is nothing fortuitous in his incarceration. Ismail Omar Guelleh is also responsible for Mohamed Ahmed Jabha imprisonment since May 2010 and Murder. Almost 7 years in solitary confinement. It is well documented that Jabha is subjected to constant horrendous torture. Ismaïl Omar Guelleh dictator regime refused to release him even after a Court decision. He died in detention on the 3rd August 2017 from ill-treatment and poisoning. The denial of Justice is second nature to TPLF Ethiopia and RPP Issa regimes. ( Denial is the river in TPLF Ethiopia NOT in Egypt ).





The Djibouti Government is not going to lift the small thumb to help him. An Afar who wants to rise from poverty and set himself economically is dangerous to Ismail Omar Guelleh, Issa Governement. So to deter others they let him languish in Prison without trial 959 days.


We urge the Ethiopian Government to put an end to our compatriot's ordeal.
